Our world is experiencing a national pandemic which has resulted in the need for physical distancing. There is not a blue print for our new normal but there is one thing for sure and that is we need people. We are wired to connect and must find new ways to stay connected, a fundamental need.
Here are some suggested ways to get started in continuing to develop and nurture healthy connections that can keep our batteries charged.
- Schedule phone calls. This can be also done by Zoom, Skype, and Facetime. It’s a great time to reconnect with friends from high school, college, previous neighbors, relatives or perhaps that business card that has been laying in a pile for a bit.
- Gratitude – Expressing gratitude puts us in a happier place mentally. I use a five year gratitude journal. It is interesting to put in today’s entry and see where I was mentally and emotionally last year which allows increased gratitude. This is a short exercise for long term gain.
- Exercise. Taking walks allows us fresh air and see others walking . There are also free exercise videos on YouTube. I personally signed up for the free 90 trial with the Peloton App. I don’t own a Peloton bike, however it allows me to do yoga, meditation, and strength training, free !
- Go through an old box or closet. It helps you get organized and perhaps throw away things that give you more space. You also might find nuggets of items you lost or discover. I have a 55 year old friend that went through a box this week and found out for the first time in his life he was adopted.
We can catch habits, happiness and be healthy at home with ourselves, others and the workplace while we aim to dodge the virus . Happy connecting.
